Compassion in World Farming

Compassion in World Farming believe that farm animals should not and need not suffer. It is working strategically towards a whole food system that is truly kind, caring and honest – kind to animals; caring for the environment and consumer health; and honestly labelled.

Strategic planning

Simon ran a series of high level away days for Compassion trustees and the senior management team to develop a new five year business strategy. In preparation for these he familiarised himself with the organisation’s issues by meeting the Chief Executive and reading key documents. He also undertook research into Compassion’s competitors and mapped their positioning against different criteria.

At the away days Simon conducted a PEST analysis and used a variety of techniques to help the planning group agree its vision, mission and strategic direction. He then enabled the team to define its aims and objectives over the next five years. Follow-up work included advising and commenting on the draft business strategy and proposing key performance indicators. Three years later, Simon was asked back to help the senior team review and update the strategy in light of its success.

Rebranding

Following development of the new business strategy, Simon helped draw up a new brand model and positioning statement for the organisation, again through a collaborative workshop. This led Compassion to question the efficacy of its name so Simon ran a highly creative day exploring alternatives. Based on previously agreed criteria the organisation decided to stick with its existing name but develop a new visual identity. Simon then managed this work, liaising with the designers and advising on the legal aspects of corporate identity.

What Compassion in World Farming said

I have known Simon in a professional capacity for over five years. During that time he has advised Compassion in World Farming on developing a new and challenging five year business strategy, helped us define our brand, gain clarity on our competitive market positioning and deliver a new corporate identity.

Simon has excellent facilitation skills whether they’re being used in a formal meeting with trustees and senior managers or a more creative setting with staff from across the organisation.

He has a very inclusive, relaxed style which enables everybody to contribute to discussions and decision-making, yet invariably manages to achieve consensus and a meeting’s objectives in the time available.

His input has been a great asset to Compassion and I would have no hesitation in recommending his consultancy services to others.
