 Business strategy

Bernstein Associates began this three-stage project by helping FAWT develop its business strategy. After some desk research and an initial scoping meeting, we lead an away day for the trustee board. Topics included environmental, competitor and stakeholder analyses; defining the need for its work; vision, mission, values and approach; strategic choices and aims; priorities and work plans over the next five years; and the resources needed to implement the plan. We then advised and commented on various drafts of the strategy document.

 Fundraising feasibility study

Liaising with a core group of trustees we drafted a basic case for support which helped the charity to sharpen costings and prioritise its main projects further. We then undertook a scoping study on likely prospects. Each was ‘headline’ researched and compiled into a spreadsheet with suggested actions, potential gift sizes and scores for the probability of success. Combined, these provided an overall guide to the total income FAWT could hope to raise.

 Fundraising strategy

Bernstein Associates then drew up a fundraising strategy and budget based on the previous two stages. We tried to ensure that we explained each fundraising discipline in some detail as FAWT trustees had little prior experience of this type of income generation. We also recommended the charity appoint a CEO and Fundraiser in order to grow and develop in the way trustees envisaged.
