Interim Head of Fundraising
Initially Simon was asked to cover the Head of Fundraising post for TSN for six months. This was then extended for a further six months.
The role involved supervising staff, managing effective donor communications, agencies and freelancers, and providing strategic fundraising ideas, as well as getting stuck in to hands-on fundraising duties. Simon produced the annual plan and budget, mailings and telephone campaigns to teacher trade union members designed both to recruit new supporters and upgrade existing ones. He also used his expertise informally to advise the marketing team on aspects of TSN’s communications and public affairs.
Mentoring
Simon went on to induct and mentor the new Head of Fundraising for her first six months in the job and continued to provide strategic and tactical advice on all aspects of the fundraising programme.
What Teacher Support Network said
Simon initially covered the TSN Head of Fundraising post before we made wider use of his skills.
He was highly proficient at planning and budgeting and quite willing to use his many years’ experience to tackle the day-to-day tasks of fundraising.
Simon also gave excellent support to the fundraising team in the absence of a permanent manager, enabling them to learn and develop in their roles.
He then successfully mentored and advised the new Head of Fundraising while she settled into the job.
